Despite local opposition, the application to build Sizewell C, a new twin reactor nuclear power station here on our coast in Suffolk, has been submitted by EDF Energy.
Meanwhile, the application documents are not made public at this stage – although if successful, the full public examination is not expected to start until the autumn.
EDF Energy has said around 25,000 employment opportunities and 1,000 apprenticeships would be created during construction. Once operational, it would employ 900 people in high-skilled positions based in Suffolk.
However, the ‘Stop Sizewell C’ group has long campaigned against another nuclear power station – and has said that this is a time to protect our ecosystems – not destroy them.
