This week, Sunrise Studios, a social enterprise supported by the regional charity Access Community Trust - has launched its very own Young Film Programmer's Group in Lowestoft. The Young Film Programmer's Group is formed of a group of 16-25 year olds who meet on a regular basis to increase their knowledge of independent film and learn how to programme', plan, market and present regular screenings, in order to share their voice with a wider audience in an independent cinema setting. Operated by Sunrise Studios in partnership with The Young Film Programmers' Network (South East) is supported by a BFI Film Academy Grant, is set to give young people a stake in the upcoming Lowestoft Film Festival taking place in October 2022 and will help to increase engagement in younger audiences, who may otherwise be generally disengaged from non-mainstream independent film. Sunrise Studios will work with young people to give them the opportunity to programme and run screenings, as well as other associated events for the Lowestoft Film Festival's 'Future of Film' programme in its inaugural year, which will support 16-25 year olds to develop activities, curate and market films. Development producer for Sunrise Studios, Joshua Freemantle said: "We are delighted to announce an exciting new opportunity for local young people in Lowestoft, which enables anyone interested in film to become young film programmer and gain valuable experience over a 12 week programme. Whether you study film in an education setting or just have a keen interest in the industry, by signing up you will be able to watch films, programme films, hear from guest speakers and become a VIP at the 2022 Film Festival." The first session begins on Tuesday 11 January 2022, with very limited spaces. To apply to join the Lowestoft young Film Programmer's group and more information visit sunriselowestoft.com/yfpgroup
