Waveney Meadow Beccles Have Your Say

A key area of Beccles is getting an upgrade.

A key area of Beccles is getting an upgrade.

Waveney Meadow is seen as a special part of the town and Beccles Town Council and the team at the Townlands Trust are looking into ways to enhance the area.

A grant from East Suffolk District Council for £22,ooo pounds will help with the project, which is hoped will see a new play area and areas for wildlife preserved.

A topographical survey of the Meadow has shown that our plans are compatible with ground levels.  Improvements to the river bank are already in hand and the Council say will begin soon.

Your thoughts on this developing the plan would be welcomed by the Town Council, who will also be consulting other stakeholders, including Suffolk Wildlife and the Broads Authority.

You can give your views in a number of ways, such as by completing the online survey form here or by sending an email with your comments to: paul.cunningham@becclestowncouncil.gov.uk Key features of the developing plan for the Meadow are: New play equipment for children aged 4-8 (such as swings, a slide and a climbing frame), to be set within a small wooden fence Paths to the play area and to the river bank (including, we hope, a small raised walkway to enable all year round access to the river bank area) Retention of the large wildlife area on the north side of the Meadow, including the existing circular pathway A low hedge to define the wildlife area, separating it from the grassed area of the Meadow A new native hedge to screen the pumping station, improve biodiversity and provide an additional wildlife habitat. Planting of some small trees (and possible removal of one or more of the existing firs in the middle of the Meadow)
