A Lowestoft based Theatre group, “Laughing Fox Productions” are all set to launch their new Edinburgh show this week.
As the 2022 Fringe Festival Box office opens, tickets go on sale, for the Laughing Fox production of “Fox Tales : The Pied Piper”.
Laughing Fox are a locally based children’s theatre group who use puppets and comedy to retell some of the classic tales of literature in new and engaging ways. The company has toured locally to great acclaim and after the enforced pandemic hiatus, are now excited to get back on the road. The group is a registered not for profit organisation which seeks to use their talent to improve access to theatre for young children as well as enthusing them with a love for literature and storytelling. The group is made up of professional creatives, Thom Bailey and Joshua Pickering who formed the group in 2018 alongside their long time friend and collaborator Richard Melchior. Richard is a local writer and educator who acts as the story teller, Hans in the show. Thom and Joshua take on the puppet roles of Reynard the crafty Fox and Gripp the foolish Raven. Together these three
act out a number of different roles to tell classic stories.
In readiness for Edinburgh this August, the group will be taking their show on tour locally, with a show already booked for Beccles Public Hall on 1st June. Then they hit the excitement of the Festival from 5-20th August performing in the prestigious Surgeon’s Hall. Thom Bailey said “We are really excited to be taking our show up to the Edinburgh Fringe. We have worked hard to develop our work over the last few years, and now this is
the opportunity we have been awaiting to show more people what we can do.”
Richard Melchior said, “Puppet shows are a really good way to engage younger children in story telling and to enthuse their love of literature. Over the last two years many young people have not been able to get out and about, so we are really keen to reach out to more of them and enthuse them with a love for theatre.”
Joshua Pickering said, “Growing up in Lowestoft, we know that many young people struggle for opportunities and sometimes feel they are stuck. We want to show other young creative people, that with a bit of hard work, you can succeed and take your show onto a national event.”
