
Nine people have had to be rescued from a boat that got stranded for hours on the river Waveney at Somerleyton.
The Coastgaurd raised the alarm about the incident - which included four children stuck on the 24 foot boat that had no power, shortly after 4 o'clock on Saturday afternoon.
Suffolk water rescue teams from Lowestoft were called to the scene - and with no casualties reported - the incident was over by 8 o’clock.
Suffolk Police say they were notified by HM Coastguard at 4.27pm on Saturday 26th April of a boat in trouble on the River Waveney near Somerleyton.
The vessel, a 24 foot craft with four children and five adults on board, had lost power just south of Somerleyton Marina.
Those on board had dropped a mud rake to prevent the boat from drifting, but without power the boat was stranded.
SFRS water rescue teams from Lowestoft were deployed and towed the boat to Somerleyton Marina.
There were no casualties and the incident was declared closed at 8pm.
