Remarkable History of Lowestoft Bridge Letter

The historic opening of Lowestoft’s Gull Wing bridge - has been a memorable occasion for many people.

Micheal George bought his first home on nearby Eastern Way back in the early 1970s.

He was concerned back then about plans for a new bridge in Lowestoft - that may have seen his home get demolished for its construction.

So, he wrote to the then MP for Lowestoft - Jim Prior back in 1972, seeking reassurances that his house would not be impacted when the new bridge was built. A response was received from the MP.

The response was a letter that Micheal shared with East Suffolk One on the day the new bridge opened, some 52 years after the letter was received.
