A local group has received a ‘The Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk Award’, following their work to support ‘100’s of people’ during this year’s pandemic. The ‘COVID 19 Community Response Group’ has been supporting people in the Beccles, Worlingham, Barnby and North Cove areas.

District Councillor Caroline Topping, told us at East Suffolk One that:

"It was with great delight that I opened a card board reinforced envelope with my name and address ‘care of’, on it on Friday (27th November).

It was a certificate from The Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk for  ‘The Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk Award’, for our COVID 19 Community Response Group, which includes the Beccles, Worlingham, Barnby and North Cove communities.

It was a great privilege to volunteer with such a wonderful group of people from these parishes. Also from Waveney Foodbank, The Waveney Centre, BACT, all the Church Groups, Social Prescribing and our parish councils.  Delivering shopping, prescriptions, emergency supplies and fresh food to people in isolation in our community since the commencement of the March lockdown and in some cases right the way through to the current wave of COVID 19.

Without the wonderful volunteers that came forward and helped us ‘your District and County Councillors’, we would never have been able to look after the 100’s of people that needed support.

This certificate is for the whole community.  Thank you."
