New Space for Local History in Lowestoft

Work is underway on a new base for a local history group in Lowestoft.

Situated in St Peters Street at the Triangle in the north of the town - The Lowestoft and District Independent Archive - or LADIA - is developing the site which will offer a more accessible and visible base for the group.

Bob Collis is one of the historians behind the project:

The Lowestoft And District Independent Archives group was founded in 2022 in the wake of the decision by Suffolk County Council to close their Lowestoft Record Office branch and remove all of the original archives to Ipswich. Six local history enthusiasts have established a viable alternative, where the former Magistrates Courts rolling archives room now serves as a repository for a treasure trove of local historic documents, maps and images.
