Lowestoft will kick off the final stage of The Tour of Britain this year.
On Sunday 8 September the tour will start stage 6 from the promenade in Lowestoft.
The final stage will see the tour make its way from Lowestoft through Suffolk villages on its way to Felixstowe.
This is the first time a stage will start and end in East Suffolk. Lowestoft is the final new venue for the 2024 Tour along with Barnsley and Northampton.
The tour of Britain takes place over 6 days between the 3rd and 8th of September.
Mayor of Lowestoft, Cllr Nasima Begum said: “It is wonderful news that Lowestoft will play host to the final stage of this year’s Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men and be part of this packed summer of sports. This is a great opportunity to promote Lowestoft, bring new people to the town and provide a boost to our local economy. I hope many people will turn out to support this prestigious event as some of the world’s best cyclists come to Lowestoft.”
Cllr Sarah Whitelock, East Suffolk Council’s cabinet member for Communities, Culture, Leisure and Tourism said: “We are thrilled to see the return of the Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men this year, which is especially exciting as the entire final stage will be held within East Suffolk. “National sporting events such as the Tour of Britain bring huge benefits to the area, attracting visitors to the district and providing a real boost for local businesses and communities. We are looking forward to September and seeing this amazing sporting spectacle in our district.”
More details of all six stages of the Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men, including route maps and detailed timings, will be announcing in the coming weeks.
