It’s General Election day. Polling Stations are open 7am until 10pm
Some voters in East Suffolk will be casting ballots today in different parliamentary constituencies than in the general election 5 years ago due to boundary changes. Bungay and Halesworth will elect their first MP in the newly formed Waveney Valley.
Voters will need a form of photo ID. A passport, driving license, blue badge, or bus pass are all acceptable forms of photo ID.
Postal Ballots Can Be Handed in at the Polling Station
If you received a ballot in the post but haven’t sent it back you won’t be able to vote in person at the polling station, but you can still cast your postal ballot. It's too late to send it by Royal Mail, instead you’ll need to take the completed postal ballot to your local polling place and hand it in by 10pm.
Most people voting in the election will do so today, in person, but some 20% typically vote by post. East Suffolk Council sent out just over 14,000 postal ballot to registered voters in the Lowestoft constituency, in Suffolk Coastal almost 17,000 postal ballots were requested
About 70% of those ballots have been sent in. As of Wednesday, the council was in receipt of about 10,000 completed ballots from Lowestoft. For voters in Suffolk Coastal, the number of people sending in their postal ballots stood at about 11,000.
