A plane crash outside Halesworth last summer was most likely caused by soft ground.
A Grumman Wildcat was coming in for a landing 6th of July on a grass runway about 4 miles southwest of Halesworth as part of the annual Heveningham Hall Country Fair when it flipped over after touching down. The pilot was seriously injured in the incident.
In its just released report, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch says the area experienced significant rainfall two days prior to the accident, likely causing the sub-soil to become soft and unable to properly support the weight of the plane.
The event organisers are planning to implement additional operational coordination and risk management measures for future events.
