East Suffolk residents are encouraged to check for changes to their bin collection days over the Christmas and New Year period. Bins will not be collected on Monday 25th, Christmas Day, Tuesday 26th Boxing Day or on Monday 1st January, New Year’s Day. This means collection days will change over the Christmas and New Year period and residents are urged to check East Suffolk Council’s online bin collection day finder at eastsuffolk.co/Christmas Councillor Rachel Smith-Lyte, East Suffolk’s cabinet member for the Environment said: “Refuse crews will be working hard to catch up after the Christmas and New Year Bank Holidays and I would urge people to check their revised collection dates to ensure their bins are emptied. Unfortunately, more waste is generated at Christmas and I would encourage people to consider what they are buying, and whether packaging or wrapping paper can be recycled through their household recycling bin. It is also a great time to try to reduce food waste, by only buying what you need and freezing any extra food where possible.” During weeks commencing 25th December and 1st January, all collections will be two days later than usual. For example, bins usually collected on Monday 25th December will instead be collected on Wednesday 27th December. During week commencing 8th January, all collections will be one day later than usual. For example, bins usually collected on Monday 8th January will instead be collected on Tuesday 9th January. Collections will return to their normal days from Monday 15th January. If your bin is not collected as expected, please check the delayed collection information at www.eastsuffolk.gov.uk/bin-collection Anyone unable to check their collection day online is asked to contact our Customer Services team on 03330 162000. To help refuse teams to continue to collect bins as easily as possible, households are asked to: Put bins out by 6am on collection day Recycle where possible through your household recycling bin. You can check what can be recycled at www.suffolkrecycling.org.uk Present the bin at the boundary of your property where your access meets the public highway or other agreed collection point Don’t force too much waste into a bin as it can stick inside, meaning it won’t come out when emptied Make sure the bin lid is closed, otherwise crews may not be able to empty it Take bins in as soon as possible after collection as they can cause obstructions to pavements.
