New Zealand’s white-ball tour of Australia called off due to quarantine issues

New Zealand’s upcoming white-ball tour of Australia has been postponed due to issues concerning quarantine requirements.

The Black Caps were due to travel to Australia next week ahead of a three-match one-day international series and a one-off T20 international.

New Zealand Cricket has announced that, because of problems players would have returning home after the tour, the matches will have to be rearranged.

Government rules in New Zealand currently require all incoming travellers to serve a hard 10-day quarantine. NZC proposed altering the dates of the tour in the hope it might ease the quarantine process but a solution could not be agreed with authorities.

NZC chief executive David White said in a statement: “As we now know, the advent of Omicron prompted a change of strategy from the Government, resulting in a hard 10-day mandatory isolation period being imposed on all incoming travellers.

“NZC and CA (Cricket Australia) had explored a proposal to expand the tour and to push out the date on which the squad might return to New Zealand, in the hope that might be more achievable for the Government.

“But we received advice this morning that they could not provide certainty over this, either.”
