With less than a month to go, local people in the Holton and Halesworth area are desperately trying to raise £60,000 to stop a haven for wildlife being sold on for development.

Holton Pits Preservation Group has set up a fundraising page in a bid to raise the money, so that it can buy the site and secure the future of the 20 acres of woodland, ponds and fields.

Holton Pits attracts a variety of wildlife and is a popular spot with local dog walkers and families.

Details about Holton Pits can be found here, whilst you can make a donation to the ‘Go Fund Me’ page here.

Rachel Horton is organising the fund raiser to save the pits and told us at East Suffolk One that “this beautiful location is near Halesworth, Suffolk and is over 20 acres of sand cliffs, trees, fields and lakes/ponds. It has a rich history (Mammoth remains and lots of medieval/WW2 items have been found here) and is a real haven for wildlife.

Unfortunately, time is running out to keep this an area that the public can use. We only have until mid-April to raise the remaining £60k required to purchase it for the local community. It will be such a shame if this can’t be done as it is such a good place for mental and physical well-being, popular with dog walkers and nature lovers (it has been declared an area of high diversity).”
