Opera Cameratina: Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day

Dame Felicity Palmer DBE returns to the historic Aldeburgh Jubilee Hall in May to celebrate the growing popularity of Imogen Holst CBE as a composer. Recent recording successes and Composer of the Week on Radio 3 have brought her music into the spotlight as her compositions have been receiving much-deserved attention.

Over the weekend of 10th and 11th of May, Dame Felicity with Susanna Stranders of The Royal Ballet and Opera and a group of emerging opera stars will explore Imogen Holst’s vocal music alongside that of her father Gustav. The singers will be accompanied by the Ellipsis Ensemble.

The programme starts on the Saturday 10th May with a matinee double-bill of Gustav Holst’s operas Sāvitri and The Wandering Scholar. Dame Felicity will then lead an open rehearsal preparing the singers for their performances of Imogen Holst’s own work, sharing with the singers and the audience her own experiences of working with Imogen.

The weekend is to be completed by an extended Recital on the Sunday evening of Imogen’s own compositions. The centrepiece is hoped to be a selection from her opera, Young Beichan, not performed since 1946.
