One of Suffolk’s traditional industries has been recognised and nominated for one of  this year’s national – Classic Boat Awards.

The International Boatbuilding Training College, based on the northern shore of Lake Lothing in Oulton Broad, is one of the finalists in the ‘Traditional New Build’ category.

The ‘Alderman Norman II’ – is a rare, if not unique, replica of a marshman’s boat and was built by Alex Hunter to the lines of an existing reedlighter craft – called Swallowtail

Other categories include ‘Restored Sailing Vessel’ and ‘Classic Boater of the Year’ – with the winners expected to be announced in the next few weeks.

With a history of a thriving fishing industry and port spanning many centuries, Lowestoft and the surrounding areas of east Suffolk have a rich maritime past.

The International Boatbuilding Training College offers a variety of boatbuilding, maintenance and woodworking courses – and you can found out more details online at: ibtc.co.uk
